About the Comparison Tool

Compare any two Pokémon side-by-side for any main-series game (Generation I through IX). Base stats with visual bars and a BST total, full learnsets by learn method, and a type coverage table showing exactly what coverage you gain or lose by switching from one to the other — all scoped to your game.

If you've got a team built in PartyDex for the selected game, the Types Coverage tab adds a Team column showing which types your current party already covers, so you can see whether a gap is real or already handled by a teammate. Click a team member in the strip above the pickers to set them as Pokémon A for an accurate “swap this member” comparison.

How It Works

  1. Select your game — this scopes all Pokémon, moves, and types to that game (Gen I–IX, 30+ games).
  2. Choose Pokémon A — search for it, or click a team member above the pickers to use them directly.
  3. Choose Pokémon B — the candidate you want to compare against.
  4. Open the Types Coverage tab — green rows are types B adds that A lacks, red rows are types A covers that B doesn't.
  5. Check the Team column, if you have a team built, to see whether missing coverage is a real gap or already covered by a teammate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I compare two Pokémon on PartyDex?

Select a game from the dropdown, then search for two Pokémon in the search boxes — labeled Pokémon A and Pokémon B. Both must be obtainable in the chosen game. Once selected, use the Stats, Moves, and Types Coverage tabs to compare them side-by-side.

What does the Pokémon comparison tool compare?

The tool compares three things: all six base stats (HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, Speed) with visual bars and a Base Stat Total; full learnsets by learn method (level-up, TM/HM, egg, tutor) showing shared and exclusive moves; and a type coverage table showing every type each Pokémon hits super-effectively, with net coverage gains and losses highlighted when considering switching from Pokémon A to Pokémon B.

How does the type coverage comparison work?

The Types Coverage tab shows a table of every offensive type that at least one of the two Pokémon covers. Each row is a type, and the columns show whether Pokémon A, Pokémon B, or your existing team already covers it. Rows are highlighted green when Pokémon B adds coverage that A lacks (a net gain) and red when switching to B would remove coverage that A provided (a net loss).

What is net type coverage gain or loss in Pokémon?

Net type coverage gain means that if you replace Pokémon A with Pokémon B, your team will be able to hit additional types super-effectively that it couldn't before. Net loss means types that A covered but B doesn't, so your team loses those super-effective matchups. PartyDex highlights these directly in the comparison table so you can make an informed swap decision.

Does the comparison tool factor in my existing team?

Yes. If you have a team built for the selected game in PartyDex, the Types Coverage tab shows a Team column indicating which types your current team already covers. You can also click a team member in the strip above the pickers to set them as Pokémon A — the tool then excludes them from the team baseline so you get an accurate “swap this member for Pokémon B” comparison.

Can I compare Pokémon from different generations?

Both Pokémon must be available in the same game. Choose your game first — the search automatically limits results to Pokémon obtainable in that game, ensuring a game-accurate comparison. Move learnsets and available types (e.g., Fairy type isn't available before Gen VI) are also scoped to the selected game version.

Can I share a Pokémon comparison with someone?

Yes. The URL updates automatically as you select Pokémon and a game — for example /compare?game=scarlet&a=charizard&b=blastoise. Copy and share that URL and anyone who opens it will see the same comparison pre-loaded.

Is the PartyDex Pokémon comparison tool free?

Yes, PartyDex is completely free. No account or sign-up is required to use the Pokémon comparison tool or any other feature on the site.
