Generation V
Best Team for Pokémon Black 2
Pokémon Black 2 is a direct sequel set two years after Black, with an expanded Unova map, new areas, and broader early-game Pokémon availability. It's widely considered the best single-player experience in the series.
Recommended Team
Emboar
Fire / Fighting — Starter
Tepig's powerful Fire/Fighting combination handles most of Unova's Gym Leaders; Emboar's natural bulk lets it take hits while dealing massive damage with Flare Blitz.
Lucario
Fighting / Steel — Gifted Ace
Receive a Riolu from Alder in Floccesy Ranch very early in the game; evolve via daytime friendship and Lucario's Aura Sphere and Close Combat carry the mid-game.
Excadrill
Ground / Steel — Physical Tank
Drilbur in Relic Passage (accessible from Castelia City); Excadrill handles Electric weakness and provides Earthquake coverage that almost no Gym Leader resists.
Galvantula
Bug / Electric — Speed Attacker
Joltik in Chargestone Cave; Thunder Wave support plus Electric coverage makes Galvantula an excellent choice against the Water Gym at Humilau City.
Flygon
Dragon / Ground — Pivot
Trapinch appears in the Desert Resort (post-4th badge); Flygon provides Dragon and Ground coverage in one slot and serves as a strong pivot attacker throughout Unova.
Chandelure
Ghost / Fire — Special Sweeper
Litwick in Celestial Tower evolves to Chandelure via Dusk Stone; at 145 Special Attack it's the strongest non-legendary special attacker available in Black 2.
Tips & Notes
- →
Black 2 adds the Pokémon World Tournament where you battle gym leaders and champions from all previous games — build your team with this in mind.
- →
Riolu from Floccesy Ranch requires daytime friendship leveling; carry it with you and use it in battles rather than your box.
- →
Black 2's exclusive Pokémon include Vullaby/Mandibuzz and Larvesta/Volcarona — Volcarona (found in Relic Castle at level 35) is an outstanding Fire/Bug type.
