Generation V
Best Team for Pokémon White
Pokémon White is the companion to Black with the White Forest postgame area and Zekrom as the mascot legendary. This team focuses on the generally-acknowledged strongest Pokémon available during a White playthrough.
Recommended Team
Samurott
Water — Starter
Oshawott evolves into Samurott, one of the bulkiest Water starters with strong Special Attack; Surf and Ice Beam provide coverage against the Dragon types in the late game.
Excadrill
Ground / Steel — Physical Powerhouse
Drilbur in Wellspring Cave before the second gym; Excadrill's Ground/Steel typing gives it great neutral coverage and Steel's wide resistance list.
Galvantula
Bug / Electric — Speed Attacker
Joltik in Chargestone Cave; Galvantula provides Electric coverage that Samurott can't offer and handles the Flying types throughout Unova.
Haxorus
Dragon — Physical Sweeper
Axew in Mistralton Cave evolves slowly but becomes the most powerful Dragon type available in White; Dragon Dance + Outrage sweeps the Elite Four.
Chandelure
Ghost / Fire — Special Sweeper
Litwick in Celestial Tower → Lampent at level 41 → Dusk Stone → Chandelure; highest non-legendary Special Attack in Gen V at 145.
Leavanny
Bug / Grass — Coverage Attacker
Sewaddle appears on Route 6 and in Pinwheel Forest; Leavanny's Bug and Grass STAB handles Water, Ground, Rock, Dark, and Psychic types with good offensive coverage.
Tips & Notes
- →
White's exclusive Pokémon include Zekrom, Rufflet/Braviary, and Solosis — Braviary is a strong Flying-type physical attacker available postgame.
- →
The White Forest allows you to catch Pokémon from previous generations — worth exploring for trade or type coverage additions.
- →
Haxorus's main weakness is that it's a pure Dragon type — cover it with a Steel or Fairy-type teammate if possible in the late game.
