Generation VI
Best Team for Pokémon X
Pokémon X is the first 3D mainline Pokémon game set in the France-inspired Kalos region. Mega Evolution is introduced and the Fairy type makes its debut. Froakie's Greninja is widely considered the best starter choice.
Recommended Team
Greninja
Water / Dark — Speed Sweeper
Froakie's Water/Dark typing and huge Speed tier make Greninja the fastest non-Mega starter in Gen VI; Surf and Dark Pulse handle most of the Kalos Gym Leaders.
Talonflame
Fire / Flying — Priority Attacker
Fletchling is available on Route 2 at the very start; Talonflame's Gale Wings (pre-patch) gives Brave Bird priority and it sweeps most mid-game trainers.
Lucario
Fighting / Steel — Gifted Mega
Korrina gifts you a Lucario with a Mega Stone on the Tower of Mastery after the 5th badge; Mega Lucario is one of the strongest Megas available in X.
Sylveon
Fairy — Special Tank
Receive an Eevee in Lumiose City; teach it a Fairy-type move and build 2 Affection hearts in Pokémon-Amie to evolve into Sylveon, the best Fairy type in Kalos.
Aegislash
Steel / Ghost — Defensive Attacker
Honedge is found on Route 6 after the 2nd badge; Aegislash's King's Shield and Stance Change mechanic make it one of the most versatile Pokémon in X.
Goodra
Dragon — Bulky Attacker
Goomy appears on Route 14 in rainy weather after the 7th badge; Goodra has the highest Special Defense of any pseudo-legendary and covers the Dragon types in the late game.
Tips & Notes
- →
Mega Lucario can be obtained before the 6th badge — use Mega Evolution from this point to sweep most trainers with Swords Dance + Close Combat.
- →
Goodra requires rain to find Goomy on Route 14; the rain occurs naturally in the area so visit during a weather cycle.
- →
X has version-exclusive Mega Stones including Mewtwonite X and Charizardite X — Mega Charizard X is a Dragon type instead of Fire/Flying.
