Generation VI
Best Team for Pokémon Y
Pokémon Y is the companion to X featuring Yveltal as mascot and Charizardite Y for Mega Charizard Y. This team builds around Delphox as starter for a different playstyle than the X-focused Greninja team.
Recommended Team
Delphox
Fire / Psychic — Starter
Fennekin's Fire/Psychic typing means Delphox handles Bug, Grass, Steel, Ice, Fighting, and Poison threats; Flamethrower and Psychic cover an enormous portion of Kalos.
Gyarados
Water / Flying — Physical Sweeper
Old Rod Magikarp near Ambrette Town evolves at level 20; Dragon Dance into Waterfall sweeps most of the Kalos Gym Leaders that Delphox can't handle.
Lucario
Fighting / Steel — Gifted Mega
Korrina's Lucario gift with a Mega Stone from the Tower of Mastery; Mega Lucario's Adaptability ability boosts Close Combat and Aura Sphere to devastating power.
Sylveon
Fairy — Defensive Wall
Eevee from Lumiose City; build Affection in Pokémon-Amie and teach a Fairy move for Sylveon, which counters the Dragon types in Diantha's final team.
Aegislash
Steel / Ghost — Versatile Attacker
Honedge on Route 6 evolves into one of the most unique Pokémon in Kalos; Aegislash's ability to switch between Attack and Defence forms makes it excellent for both offence and stalling.
Goodra
Dragon — Bulky Special Attacker
Goomy on Route 14 in rain; Goodra's Special Defense makes it incredibly tanky and its coverage moves handle most of what Delphox and Gyarados can't.
Tips & Notes
- →
Y has Charizardite Y (Fire/Flying Mega Charizard Y) while X has Charizardite X (Dragon/Fire); choose accordingly if you want Mega Charizard.
- →
Yveltal (Dark/Flying) is the story legendary in Y — it's a strong late-game addition with Oblivion Wing and Dark Pulse.
- →
Delphox covers more types than Greninja offensively but is slower; use it in the back of your party as a revenge killer.
